Teach FlowCue What Is Normal
Every home uses water differently. A sprinkler system, water softener, reverse-osmosis system, humidifier, or pool fill can look unusual to FlowCue even when it is expected.
When you tell FlowCue about water use you recognize, it can learn which similar patterns from that same device should not keep generating leak alerts. FlowCue never assumes that recurring water use is safe without your confirmation.
Before You Mark Water Use as Expected
Only mark water use as expected when you know what caused it and have confirmed that it is not a leak.
Choose Keep alerting if you are unsure, if the water use is unexplained, or if it could be a plumbing problem. Do not mark an unknown or continuously running fixture as expected just because it happens regularly.
Teaching FlowCue about one expected activity does not turn off leak alerts for your home. FlowCue can still alert you about water use that is different from the pattern you approved.
Respond to a Leak Alert
When FlowCue shows a potential leak or unusual-water-use alert on the dashboard, first check the water use.
- If you found and dealt with a real issue, tap Issue Resolved. This clears the current alert; it does not teach FlowCue that the water use is normal.
- If you know the water use was not a leak, tap Not a Leak?.
On the Not a Leak? screen, choose what caused the water use, then tap Save feedback. The current options include:
- Irrigation / sprinklers
- Water softener regeneration
- Reverse osmosis
- Pool / spa fill
- Whole-home humidifier
- Something else (not a leak)
Saving feedback clears that alert and teaches FlowCue about similar water use from that device. If the same activity runs at a different time, in a different season, or in a meaningfully different way, FlowCue may still alert you. That is intentional: it helps prevent a new problem from being mistaken for the activity you approved.
Review Repeated Water Use
Sometimes FlowCue sees water use repeating often enough to be worth reviewing, but it has not been approved as expected. A Review Water Use card appears on the dashboard when there is something to review.
- Tap Review Water Use on the dashboard.
- Review the time it usually starts, how often it has occurred, its flow rate, water used, and recent occurrences.
- If you recognize it and have confirmed it is expected, tap This is expected.
- Choose the activity that best matches, then confirm your choice.
FlowCue will stop notifying you when water use matches that approved recurring pattern. If you do not recognize the activity, tap Keep alerting instead. FlowCue will continue to alert you about future matching water use.
Home owners and home members can make these decisions. Home viewers can see the review information but cannot approve or reject it.
Monthly Review Reminder
If repeated water use remains unreviewed, the home owner may receive a monthly email inviting them to review it in the FlowCue app. A home owner receives no more than one of these reminder emails for a home in a month, even if several patterns need review.
The reminder is a catch-up prompt, not a statement that the water use is safe. Review it only when you recognize the activity. Leaving it unapproved keeps future matching water use eligible for alerts.
These reminder emails use the same email preference as the Monthly Water Report. To receive or stop them for a home:
- Select that home in the FlowCue app.
- Tap Settings.
- Under Account, tap Notifications.
- Under Email, turn Monthly Water Report on or off.
- Tap Save Changes.
See Monthly Water Report for more about this email preference.
Keep Leak Alerts Enabled
To receive potential-leak and unusual-water-flow alerts, keep Leak alerts enabled for the home:
- Select the home in the FlowCue app.
- Tap Settings.
- Under Account, tap Notifications.
- Under Alerts, keep Leak alerts turned on and tap Save Changes.
Also allow FlowCue notifications in your phone’s system settings. Notifications can be delayed or unavailable when your phone, home internet connection, or FlowCue device is offline, so investigate any sign of unexpected water use promptly.
