General Installation FAQs
Can I install the Flow device myself?
Yes! No pipe cutting is required and no plumber is needed.
The Flow app will guide you through the entire installation step-by-step.
How long does installation take?
Most users set up Flow in under 15 minutes.
To complete the installation, you will:
- Download the Flow app
- Create your account
- Attach the Flow device to your water meter
- Connect the device to your Wi-Fi network
- Configure it for your specific water meter model
Do I need power or Wi-Fi near my water meter?
Yes — Flow connects directly to your home Wi-Fi network and must be powered using the included 5V adapter.
How far does my water meter need to be from the power outlet?
The Flow power adapter cable is 2 meters (6.5 feet) in length.
If you need additional reach, it can be safely extended up to 10 meters (33 feet) using a compatible 5.5 × 2.1mm barrel-connector extension cable.
What do I do if the Wi-Fi signal does not reach my water meter?
If your Wi-Fi signal is too weak at the meter location, here are recommended options:
- Move your router closer or slightly reposition it for better coverage.
- Add a Wi-Fi extender or mesh Wi-Fi node to boost coverage in that area.
- Elevate your router (waist-height or higher) and avoid placing it behind metal or concrete.
- If possible, install a mesh node closer to the basement or meter location.
Improving Wi-Fi coverage typically resolves communication issues with the Flow device.
Does the app support multiple meters?
Yes — the Flow app fully supports multiple devices and multiple homes under the same account.
You may want to add additional Flow devices if:
- You have more than one water meter at the same property
- You have multiple homes (e.g., main home + cottage/vacation property)
- You are a property manager and need to monitor usage across several locations
Each device is organized by home, making it easy to switch between properties and monitor all meters from one account.
