Shutoff Valve Auto Protection

Shutoff Valve Auto Protection is an optional safety feature for homes with a connected shutoff valve. When it is armed, FlowCue can automatically close the valve after detecting a leak to help limit water damage.

Manual and Armed Modes

In Manual mode, the valve can be shut off only by the homeowner. In Armed mode, FlowCue automatically closes the valve when it detects a leak. Shutoff Valve Auto Protection never arms itself, and the homeowner can switch between Manual and Armed at any time.

Turn On Shutoff Valve Auto Protection

Open Settings and select Valve Protection in the Device section. Choose Armed to allow automatic shutoff, or Manual to keep control of the valve yourself. Only the homeowner can change this setting.

You can also open Shutoff Valve Auto Protection from the main navigation. Tap the Device actions icon , then select Valve Protection.

While Shutoff Valve Auto Protection is armed, a guard icon appears in the app’s navigation bar. Tap it to open Shutoff Valve Auto Protection and switch back to Manual mode when automatic shutoff is no longer needed.

When a Leak Is Detected

The app notifies the homeowner when it detects a suspected high-flow, slow-flow, or variable-flow leak and begins shutting off the valve.

Expected Water Use

Automatic valve shutoff takes into account water activity that FlowCue has learned is normal for the home. Water activities labelled by the homeowner, such as irrigation, humidifiers, or water softeners, will not activate the shutoff valve.

Away Reminders

After 24 hours without normal household activity, FlowCue may suggest that you arm Shutoff Valve Auto Protection. It will never change the setting automatically.

If Shutoff Valve Auto Protection remains armed after household activity resumes, FlowCue may remind you that automatic shutoff is still on and invite you to switch back to Manual mode.

When the Device Is Offline

If the device loses its internet connection but remains powered, it will still close an armed valve when it detects a leak locally. Without access to the home’s learned water-use patterns, it takes a more protective approach, which may result in the valve shutting off for water use that would normally be recognized as expected activity.
